DIRECTIONS

Cast on 44 sts in MC. Arrange evenly on two circular or four double pointed needles. PM at beginning of round and join. Work K1, P1 ribbing for 3".

Change to SS. Knit one row, increasing one stitch at the end of the row. Total stitches: 45. Knit one round even.

Begin thumb gusset:

If using Magic Loop or two circular needles: On needle 1, knit across 22 sts, PM, MIL. One needle 2, K1, MIR, PM. Knit to end. Total sts: 47; 3 gusset sts between markers. Knit 1 round even.

If using dpns: Knit to end of needle 2, PM, MIL. Beginning of needle 3, K1, MIR, PM. Knit to end of needle 4. Total sts: 47; 3 gusset sts between markers. Knit 1 round even.

Either method: Knit increase round: Knit to marker, slip marker, MIL, knit to next marker, MIR, slip marker, knit to end (you will increase two sts in every increase round). Increase in this manner every fourth round, until you have 15 sts between markers.

On the next round, place the sts between the markers (gusset sts) on waste yarn or stitch holder. Remove gusset markers, and increase 1 st on the left hand needle to close the gap. Knit to the end of the round. Total sts: 45.

Continue in ss until the palm of the glove measures 3 1/2" above ribbing.

Little Finger (Hufflepuff): Work across first 6 sts.

If using Magic Loop, use circular needle to hold next 34 sts.

If using dpns, place next 34 sts on a holder.

For both methods: use a backward loop to CO 1 st to close the gap. Work the last 5 sts. Total little finger sts: 12.

Arrange sts evenly on 3 dpn and knit 4 rows. Change to A. Knit stripes as follows:

  • 2 rows A
  • 3 rows B
  • 2 rows A
Resume knitting with MC until total length measures 2" (or to the tip of the finger).

K2tog all the way around. Break yarn, draw tail through remaining stitches, pull tight and weave in.

Continue palm:

Join yarn at base of little finger. Pick up and knit 2 sts along cast on edge of little finger, then continue knitting hand on remaining live stitches. 36 total stitches. Knit two rounds.

Ring Finger (Ravenclaw): Place first and last 6 sts on dpn.

If using Magic Loop, use circular needle to hold remaining sts.

If using dpns, place remaining sts on a holder.

For both methods: Join yarn at base of middle finger. Pick up and knit 2 sts along side of little finger, then knit across first dpn. Use a backward loop to CO 1 st to close the gap between dpns and knit to end. Total ring finger sts: 15

Arrange sts evenly on 3 dpn and knit 6 rows. Change to C. Knit stripes as follows:
  • 2 rows C
  • 3 rows D
  • 2 rows C

Resume knitting with MC until total length measures 2 1/2" (or to the tip of the finger).

K2tog all the way around, ending k3tog. Break yarn, draw tail through remaining stitches, pull tight and weave in.

Middle Finger (Slytherin): Place first and last 6 sts on dpn.

Total middle finger sts: 15

Arrange sts evenly on 3 dpn and knit 6 rows. Change to C. Knit stripes as follows:

  • 2 rows C
  • 3 rows E
  • 2 rows C

Resume knitting with MC until total length measures 2 3/4" (or to the tip of the finger).

K2tog all the way around, ending k3tog. Break yarn, draw tail through remaining stitches, pull tight and weave in.

Index Finger (Gryffindor): Distribute remaining 12 evenly between dpn.

Join yarn at base of middle finger. Pick up and knit 2 sts along side of little finger, then knit across first dpn. Use a backward loop to CO 1 st to close the gap between dpns and knit to end. Total index finger sts: 14

Arrange sts evenly on 3 dpn and knit 6 rows. Change to F. Knit stripes as follows:

  • 2 rows F
  • 3 rows G
  • 2 rows F

Resume knitting with MC until total length measures 2 1/2" (or to the tip of the finger).

K2tog all the way around. Break yarn, draw tail through remaining stitches, pull tight and weave in.

Thumb: Place held sts on dpn. Using MC, pick up and knit 2 sts along CO edge bet thumb and hand. Total thumb sts: 17

Arrange as evenly as possible on 3 dpn and work until the thumb measures 1 3/4". K2tog all the way around, ending k3tog.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends, using yarn tails to sew shut any gaps.

Knit a second glove to match the first.
